Usenet veteran put to the test

Giganews - Big offer with a big weakness

Giganews has been a very well known and highly respected Usenet provider since 1999, with a reputation for quality and reliability. We find out in the test whether the Usenet veteran can also convince in the year 2025.

Test result Giganews

Test result 10/25

GIGANEWS

6.8

Satisfactory

Positive

  • Good price
  • Free test phase
  • 100 simultaneous connections
  • Free VPN included

Negative

  • Poor speed

Speed

5.4

Disillusionment in the speed test: We tested the performance of Giganews over a period of several weeks and the performance was far below average. Not only in the SBZnzbd speed test, but also in practice, the result is consistently poor.

Giganews only manages to download between 40 MB/s and 50 MB/s, which is the worst result in the test. We will continue to test regularly and update the article if improvements are made (status: 10/25)

Customer satisfaction & reviews

9.2

Overall, the reviews of Giganews are not exactly positive. Complaints include unsatisfactory customer service or incomplete files; we did not have these problems during our tests.

Frequent feedback:

  • It is reported that the retention time is getting worse and worse
  • Connection speeds of European users are not satisfactory
  • Incomplete files are reported

Services

9.4

As mentioned, Giganews offers a 14-day trial period. During this time, the user can test the offer without limits. There is therefore no risk, but payment details must be provided when registering so that the account can be debited after a 14-day trial if the services are to your liking.

Payment can be made by credit card, SEPA direct debit and Paypal. We would like to see more alternatives here; payment via cryptocurrency would be desirable.

Apart from that, Giganews promises the full program: unlimited data and speed, 100 connections, SSL encryption and, as a highlight, a VPN for free. VyprVPN seems to be a solid product, but we can read about some weaknesses in test reports. At this point, we would like to refer you to our partner offer from our multiple award-winning partner NordVPN.

Customer support

8.5

If you need support, Giganews customer service is available via e-mail or contact form.

Our test support requests were always answered within one hour, which is a very fast response time in comparison.

Price-performance ratio

7.9

Giganews currently offers 3 subscriptions, which differ only in their duration. There is a 14-day trial version for all offers so that the service can be tested extensively beforehand.

Prices start at €8.33 per month, all offers include unlimited data, unlimited speed, 100 connections, SSL encryption and on top of that you get a VPN for free!

In theory, Giganews has one of the best offers on the market, but in practice the connection speeds were very slow, so that the advertising promises could not be kept.

Conclusion on Giganews

At first glance, the Giganews offer is perfect: unlimited data and speed, 100 connections and free VPN. However, the test showed that Giganews can no longer keep up with other providers. One of the reasons for this is the comparatively very slow speed. Giganews only achieved last place in our speed test, which puts the theoretically good offer into perspective.
